Behind,

This is Just to Say

(The Promise)

Background

In Summer of 2018 I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Micheal Chu, as he was my teacher in a credit recovery program through the LAUSD Continuation High School I was enrolled in. After getting to know what my interests were, like any great teacher he thought of creative ways to challenge and motivate me to learn the curriculum.

The Assignment

After listening to This American Life #354 "Mistakes Were Made" (act two) I was instructed to create my own "spoof/take" on the Imagist poem, This Is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams.

"My apologies

I was upset

that you had failed me

again."

The Simple Truth

The final product is what became known to me as, The Promise. Using, This Is Just To Say as an inspiration for my poem allowed me to tell a simple short story that I am sure many might relate to. I find joy in hearing other's version of this poem, and would love to hear yours!
